ACMOBILITY, the official distributor of BYD cars in the Philippines, has introduced the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, a compact SUV powered by BYD’s Super DM-i technology. Priced at P1.548M, the Sealion 6 DM-i is available in all BYD showrooms nationwide and joins the brand’s growing lineup of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in the country.
The Sealion 6 DM-i aims to address range anxiety, a common concern for potential EV buyers. The vehicle utilizes BYD’s Super DM-i platform, a range-extended EV system designed to provide a total driving distance of over 1,000 kilometers. This makes it suitable for both city driving and long-distance travel.
The SUV is powered by a permanent synchronous magnet motor and an 18.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Ultra-Safe BYD Blade Battery, offering an estimated range of 105 kilometers in Full EV mode. When combined with its range extender, the total driving distance extends significantly, showcasing the potential of the technology.
The Sealion 6 DM-i’s powertrain delivers 197 PS and 325 Nm from its motor, with a full power output of 217 PS when utilizing the range extender. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines, stated, “With the new BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, we want to change and challenge the new energy vehicle segment by redefining expectations in the industry.” He emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions and highlighted the Sealion 6 DM-i’s role in introducing the benefits of electric vehicles while addressing range anxiety concerns.
To demonstrate the Sealion 6 DM-i’s long-distance capabilities, two units were driven on a demanding Luzon Loop route from July 20 to 22, 2024. The vehicles traveled from Metro Manila to Tuguegarao, Ilocos, La Union, and back to BGC on a single charge and full tank of the range extender. The SUV’s convenience and safety features were utilized throughout the drive, which included various road and traffic conditions.
The team completed the 1,297.6-kilometer route with battery charge and range extender distance remaining. They continued driving to Subic Bay and ultimately covered a total distance of 1,608 kilometers, including 48 kilometers driven under battery power upon returning to BGC.
This four-day exercise was observed by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) to ensure the drive was documented and conducted safely and legally. The presence of AAP observers aimed to assure the public that the feat could be replicated by any BYD Sealion 6 DM-i owner.
The Sealion 6 DM-i features BYD’s Ocean X Face design, with a wide front grille, Glistening Combination Headlamps, and Double U-shaped Suspension Headlights. The SUV’s dimensions–4,775 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height–offer ample interior space while maintaining a compact footprint.
The interior is designed for comfort and practicality, with leather seats, acoustic window panels, and rear privacy glass. Advanced features include a 12.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control, a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-speaker Infinity Luxury Sound System.
The BYD DiLink system provides voice assistant functionality, 4G connectivity, and over-the-air software updates. Additional features include dual 15W Wireless Chargers, keyless entry, NFC card access, USB ports, and a 12-volt power socket.
The Sealion 6 DM-i can be charged using public AC charging stations and comes with a 1.7 kW portable charger and a free 7kW wall charger. Charging times range from 2.6 to 3 hours using AC public charging and around nine hours with the portable charger.
In terms of safety, the SUV is equipped with six airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Traction Control System, Electronic Stability Control System, Hill Descent Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Comfort Braking, and Electronic Anti-Theft System. It also features BYD DiPilot Advanced Driver Assistance System, which includes a 360-degree View Camera System, a six-sensor radar system, Intelligent Cruise Control with Stop & Go functionality, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Assistance, Automatic Emergency Braking System, Front Collision Warning, Traffic Congestion Assistance, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limit Information, and Intelligent Speed Limit Control.
The Sealion 6 DM-i is available in three colors: Azure Blue, Arctic White, and Harbour Gray.
The SUV comes with a 6-year or 150,000-km Vehicle Warranty, an 8-year or 150,000-km Electric Motor Warranty, and an 8-year or 160,000-km Warranty for its Blade Battery.
