The move to sustainable mobility has shifted to the use of PHEV or Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicles and full EVs.

Passengers now have the option to help contribute to a greener environment when they book their rides with Xpress, a new ride-hailing platform that will use PHEV and EVs in their fleet.

The platform will also empower driver-partners who will earn better income and have a more practical way of acquiring their vehicles.

As part of its “long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability,” Xpress has begun integrating green mobility into its ride-hailing fleet, starting with BYD models. This move underscores Xpress’ vision to make PHEV adoption accessible, cost-effective, and beneficial for drivers and passengers alike.

Cebuana Lhuillier’s Ka-Negosyo Program will provide exclusive financing for Xpress driver partners with 0% commission to support drivers transitioning to PHEV’s and EV’s.

The bold initiative was unveiled recently during the contract signing between Xpress and AC Mobility, distributors of BYD vehicles, held at Blue Leaf at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala, CEO of ACMobility, highlighted the broader impact of sustainable mobility solutions in the country:

“Xpress is the first ride-hailing company in the Philippines to take such a decisive step toward sustainable mobility. Their commitment to driver empowerment aligns with ACMobility’s vision of enabling cleaner, more efficient transportation. Through our investment in fuel-efficient and eco-friendly charging infrastructure, ensuring that this transition is not just possible but practical and accessible for drivers nationwide.”

ACMobility’s groundbreaking $100 million investment in expanding EV charging networks reinforces Xpress’s strategic decision to adopt BYD battery-powered vehicles. This move ensures Xpress drivers have seamless access to reliable charging infrastructure.

Jean Henri Lhuillier, chairman of Xpress, reinforced Xpress’s role as a leader in PHEV, said: “The transition to PHEVs is not just about sustainability—it’s about securing better earnings, lower operating costs, and financial stability for our drivers as they become entrepreneurs. That’s why Xpress is introducing a 0% commission program for a limited time to support the transition. With the backing of Cebuana Lhuillier’s Ka-Negosyo Program, Xpress driver-partners now have a pathway to PHEV ownership, making this shift more accessible than ever.”

During the event, Cliff Cabungcal, president of Xpress, emphasized the transformational role of this electrification push in reshaping the ride-hailing industry.

“The future of urban transport is sustainable, and Xpress is committed to leading this transition. By investing in electric mobility, we’re not just adopting new technology—we’re creating real opportunities for drivers to increase earnings while reducing their environmental footprint.”

Displayed at the event were the BYD Attoh 3 full EV, which can have a range of 400 plus kilometers on a full charge and the BYD Seal PHEV which can travel more than 1,000 kms on a full tank.

The service will initially be available in Metro Manila and nearby provinces to be followed by cities in Visayas and Mindanao.

The Xpress and AC Mobility initiative will certainly pave the way for a new era of sustainable transport in the Philippines.
