MALAYA Business Insight’s motoring and infotech editor Raymond B. Tribdino was given the “E-Mobility Award for Media” at the 11th Philippine Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS).

The award, given by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), is in recognition of Tribdino’s significant contributions to the promotion and adoption of EVs in the country as a member of the media and as an advocate who jumpstarted efforts to introduce the sale of commercial electric vehicles in the country.

Tribdino has been covering the automotive, transport, and IT beats since 1994. He wrote for US-based pioneer electric vehicle website, EVWorld, from 1999 to 2002. He has also been contributing articles to Cleantechnica, America’s largest renewable energy and electric vehicle information portal.

At Malaya Business Insight, he has written extensively about the reduced environmental impact and other benefits of EVs. He is also a vocal critic of government policies that hinder the adoption of EVs, such as high import duties and a lack of charging infrastructure and helped lobby for support for the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) of the Philippines.

Tribdino joined Nissan Motor Philippines in 2002 and became manager for product planning, giving him the opportunity to sit in the regional study at Nissan Motor Co. in Japan for the Nissan LEAF EV, four years before the official launch of the car in 2009. He said he was enthralled by EV technology and the passion by which Nissan was developing commercially viable innovations for the LEAF.

In 2013, as VP for Marketing and Sales of Chery Motors Philippines, Tribdino initiated the possible commercial importation of electric vehicles to the country. Tribdino said he is “honored and humbled” to receive the EVAP award, saying that he is “optimistic about the future of EVs in the Philippines.”

He likewise said he remains “committed to continuing to advocate for EV adoption.”

Malaya Business Insight’s Director for Advertising, Mitchell Encarnado received the award in behalf of Tribdino who is away on vacation.
