HONDA Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) is issuing a recall affecting over 6,000 vehicles. In a press statement recently, it announced that was recalling the CR-V RS e:HEV E-CVT units from year models 2023 to 2024 for issues discovered on the high-pressure fuel pump which may result to gasoline fumes and steering gearbox snagging, which may cause unusual sounds, and vibration while turning.
The issues affect the Honda model globally and have not resulted to accidents. In the same statement HCPI says it “apologizes for any inconvenience these recalls may cause because the company places great value on its customers’ safety and wants to ensure that no Honda products running on the road could harm anyone.”
The high-pressure fuel pump recall may have cracks on the Core B, which may result to gasoline fumes. This could result in the customer smelling gasoline while idling and driving. All 1,351 affected units shall be subject to inspection, which is free of charge.
HCPI is also issuing a recall for certain steering gearboxes for snagging, unusual sound and vibration while turning. Due to the decrease in grease amount in the worm gear, meshing area of the Electric Power Steering Gearbox during use, the sliding resistance in the meshing area increases and the torque fluctuation becomes larger while turning the steering wheel.
This results in an unusual sound and an unsmooth turn from steering while turning or ‘sticky steering’ that might make the driver feel a sense of unease. About 5,505 units are affected. Replacement parts and labor for this voluntary recall are also free of charge.
Starting last Friday January 17, all affected customers are urged to avail inspection or replacements for these affected parts. Owners may proceed to any of the 38 Honda Cars dealerships and three service centers nationwide. Customers can verify if their vehicle is affected by encoding its 17-digit Chassis Number or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the Chassis/VIN search tool of the recall information webpage at www.hondaphil.com/recall. Customers can also contact Honda’s customer service hotline, 1-800-1000-HONDA (46632) or (02) 857-7240 between 8am to 5pm, from Monday to Friday, or email update@hondaphil.com for further assistance.
