GRAB Philippines remains resolute in its mission to deliver secure and convenient rides, not just for passengers but also for its valued driver-partners. Prioritizing safety as a cornerstone of its operations, Grab supplements its robust suite of safety features with continuous learning initiatives for its driver-partners. These programs are designed to reinforce and update their road safety skills, knowledge, and adherence to regulations.
CJ Lacsican, Head of Operations at Grab Philippines, emphasizes, “Road safety entails more than simply following traffic rules; it requires a comprehensive commitment. At Grab, we adopt a holistic approach to safety. We introduce pioneering safety features within our app and equip our driver-partners with the necessary skills to provide safe rides. This extends beyond just driving techniques, encompassing the expected conduct while transporting passengers to their destinations.”
One of Grab’s key initiatives in road safety education is its webinar series titled “Drive Safe: Takbong Pogi, Safe Palagi.” This series features speakers from Grab and partner organizations, providing periodic refreshers on road safety tips for driver- and delivery-partners. The quarterly webinars focus on topics like vehicle maintenance, road safety guidelines, and driver well-being.
Additionally, Grab collaborates with experts from various fields to address specific road situations. In early 2023, Grab partnered with global construction materials company CEMEX for a knowledge-sharing series called “Listo Tayo!” The sessions focused on safe road navigation for heavy- and light-duty trucks. So far, around 1,000 driver- and delivery-partners have participated in these sessions.
The “Drive Safe: Takbong Pogi, Safe Palagi” webinar series also places considerable emphasis on passenger handling. It imparts crucial customer service reminders and guidelines to Grab driver-partners, ensuring a secure and stress-free environment for passengers. The topics covered include gender sensitivity, language use, and general code of conduct.
To make learning opportunities more accessible, Grab offers GrabAcademy, an in-app learning platform exclusive to its partner communities. Driver-, delivery-, and merchant-partners gain access to a wide range of educational programs on the platform. These cover subjects such as road safety, vehicle sanitation, data protection, and refresher courses on service quality standards and platform guidelines. GrabAcademy also includes modules on entrepreneurship, computer basics, and digital content. Partners who complete these courses receive a Certificate of Completion via their driver- or merchant-apps.
Lacsican underlines, “As the saying goes, ‘lifelong learning is the key to success.’ We are committed to providing a sustainable livelihood for our partners and ensuring they progress optimally on our platform. It is crucial to us that they grow alongside us, evolving their skill sets as they pursue their professions within the Grab ecosystem or explore other income-generating opportunities.”
In its relentless pursuit of safer roads, Grab Philippines is not only championing road safety but also enabling its driver-partners to thrive and provide the best possible experience for their passengers.
