IN ANTICIPATION of the upcoming Extreme E Season 4, a recent interview with the series’ Managing Director, Ali Russell, sheds light on the excitement building ahead of the 2024 opening rounds in Saudi Arabia next month, as well as the pioneering development of the world’s first hydrogen off-road racing championship, Extreme H.
A mere month has passed since the conclusion of the 2023 season in Chile, and we’re now just weeks away from the commencement of the fourth Extreme E campaign. The championship operates at a breathtaking pace, evident in the rapid launch of a new season shortly after the previous one’s conclusion.
Season 4 promises to be an exhilarating spectacle. The previous season was exceptionally competitive, with new race winners and five teams vying for the championship title until the final X Prix. While Rosberg X Racing secured their second Extreme E title, the chasing teams are eager to make their mark as the on-track action resumes in Saudi Arabia next month.
The year 2024 holds great promise for the championship. The launch of Extreme H, a groundbreaking hydrogen-powered racing series, is in the works. Last year marked significant milestones, including a memorandum of understanding with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the establishment of a hydrogen technical working group in collaboration with the FIA and Formula One.
Track testing for Extreme H is already underway, and the debut of this innovative hydrogen-powered race car, showcasing sustainable technology and innovation, is eagerly anticipated later this year.
Managing the simultaneous development of the Extreme H car alongside an action-packed Extreme E campaign is a formidable challenge, but the entire team embraces it with enthusiasm. While looking ahead to the hydrogen-powered future, the focus remains on the 2024 ten-race global journey.
Saudi Arabia, a traditional starting point for Extreme E, will host Rounds 1-2 on 17-18 February. Europe will play a central role in Season 4, with plans to streamline operations during the middle of the campaign. The venue for Rounds 3-4 in July will be announced soon. Additionally, a return to Sardinia in September is on the agenda, potentially marking the first public off-road laps for the Extreme H car.
The grand finale in the United States in November will be a fitting conclusion to Extreme E Season 4. North America is a crucial market, and expanding the series there for the first time is expected to be a spectacular milestone. With the championship’s history of climactic conclusions, the US audience can anticipate an exciting end to the season.
