AUTO mechanic graduates from Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati, Inc. (Don Bosco) will benefit immensely from a partnership between Chevron Philippines Inc., known for its Caltex brand and the American Chamber Foundation Philippines, Inc. (AmCham) as it launched a Supervised Industry Learning (SIL) program.
This initiative allows recent graduates to gain practical experience through on-the-job training (OJT) or apprenticeships within Chevron’s network of distributors and workshops.
This immersion aims to help students fulfill the requirements for their TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) qualification by applying their skills in real-world settings under the guidance of experienced mentors at Caltex Do-It-For-Me (DIFM) auto workshops.
Don Bosco is a renowned institution offering technical-vocational education and training (TVET) programs in the Philippines. It focuses on providing technical skills training to underprivileged youth, empowering them to secure decent employment and improve their lives. The school offers various TVET programs in fields such as automotive, electronics, mechanical, and refrigeration and air conditioning technology. These programs adhere to a dual training system, combining theoretical instruction with practical training in partner industries, ensuring that students gain real-world experience and are well-prepared for the workforce.
The SIL Program is mutually beneficial, providing Caltex workshops with additional manpower and giving students valuable hands-on experience in various Caltex-branded workshops, including Caltex autoPro, Caltex Havoline autoPro, and Caltex Delo Sports oil change.
The program is designed to enhance students’ skills and knowledge, ultimately leading to their certification in auto-mechanics. It will run for four months, requiring participants to complete 640 hours of training to be eligible for TESDA certification.
“We are delighted with this partnership with AmCham and Don Bosco, as it aligns with our company’s mission to host programs that help students cultivate their skills, expand their careers, and provide opportunities for growth while learning,” said Billy Liu, Chevron Philippines General Manager.
This collaboration is not the first between Chevron and Don Bosco. The two organizations have a long-standing history of working together to provide educational and livelihood programs for disadvantaged youth at the school. This new initiative further solidifies their commitment to empowering young individuals and preparing them for successful careers in the automotive industry.
