The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated,  popularly known by its acronym, CAMPI, celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a gala dinner at the Grand Hyatt in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) on May 29, 2025.

With the theme “30 Years and Beyond“, CAMPI sets its goals for the next three decades with a renewed vision for the future.

“Since CAMPI was formed three decades ago, the association has made significant strides in enabling automotive manufacturing and advancing motorization in the country,” Jose Chaves Alvarez, Chairman and Founder of CAMPI, said before an overflow crowd.

“This resulted in the industry’s unmatched collective contribution to the economy and in improving the lives of Filipinos, both from the side of the automotive labor force and the customers and end users of various mobility services and solutions. We could not have done this without our inter-industry collaboration and our partnership with government institutions.”

In good company: Former CAMPI president Elizabeth Lee, Malaya Business Insight CEO Antonio Macasaet, and Motoring Journalist/Power Wheels owner Lester Dizon.

United with a new vision

Alvarez added, “After 30 fruitful years of CAMPI, especially when the mobility industry is in the middle of another great transformation, we commit to being ready for what’s beyond. That is why tonight is more than just celebrating our glorious past. It is about creating the future of mobility as one united CAMPI.”

As CAMPI enters its fourth decade, the organization unveiled a new vision: To foster mobility transition in the Philippines while creating competitive conditions and opportunities for a vibrant automotive industry, and positive outcomes for the economy and society.

“As we grow stronger and bigger as an association and as we move forward, CAMPI remains firmly committed to the four pillars of Technology & Innovation, Road Safety, Sustainability, and Industry Development,” said lawyer Rommel Gutierrez, president of CAMPI. “These guiding principles will help ensure that the Philippine automotive industry continues to thrive and lead in the face of change.” Gutiérrez emphasized the four key pillars that will guide CAMPI in responding to the rapidly evolving automotive landscape. These are:

·               Technology & Innovation – Moving forward, CAMPI focuses on embracing advancements in electric vehicles (EVs), connected platforms, and autonomous driving technologies, all aimed at delivering smarter and more efficient mobility solutions.

·               Road Safety – Reinforces the need for standardized safety protocols, mutual recognition agreements (MRAs), and alignment with global benchmarks to ensure safer road environments for all users.

·               Sustainability – Underscores CAMPI’s commitment to environmental responsibility by advocating for carbon neutrality through electrification, fuel diversification, and energy-efficient practices.

·               Industry Development – Centered on strengthening regional integration, investing in the upskilling of human capital, and preparing the Philippine automotive sector to align with and excel in global market trends.

Special recognition

Former CAMPI President Elizabeth Lee arrived just as the program was about to start and was immediately approached by her numerous friends. She was visibly surprised when she was called on stage to receive a bouquet of flowers and a Special Recognition for her service as president of CAMPI for seven productive years. During her tenure with CAMPI,  Lee was the president of Universal Motors Corporation, which at the time, was the distributor of Nissan pickup trucks (Navara), SUVs (Terrano, Murano, Patrol), vans (Urban), and light commercial vehicles (Cabstar) before its integration with Nissan Motor Philippines to form the current Nissan Philippines, Inc.

The keynote speaker of the evening, Department of Transportation  Secretary Vince Dizon, spoke from the heart when he enjoined CAMPI member-companies, their leaders, managers, and employees, members of the media, and everybody present in the gathering to help fix the “broken” system of driving courtesy, road safety and traffic management.

Since its founding on May 16, 1995, CAMPI has been instrumental in championing the interests of the Philippine automotive sector, making significant contributions to the nation’s economic growth.
