Promises safe, fast, and efficient transport during week-long celebration

Angkas, the homegrown motorcycle taxi company, has once again played a pivotal role in this year’s Sinulog festivities, enhancing the transportation experience for both locals and tourists in Metro Cebu.

Starting January 14, Angkas booths were stationed across the city of Cebu to aid new and existing users in navigating their Angkas apps–in anticipation of the Sinulog Festival Celebration slated on January 21st.

This is not the first time Angkas was involved in one of the oldest and most prolific festivals showcasing Philippine culture and creativity. In the celebration of Sinulog 2023, Angkas was the official transportation partner of the festival. Over 1,000 Angkas riders were rolled out to provide free rides to festival goers for a seamless trip experience.

Angkas CEO George Royeca said the company has always stayed true to its commitment of providing Filipinos better access to public transportation, “We’re truly grateful for the opportunity to help alleviate the commuting challenges faced by festival-goers during one of Cebu’s most important events,” said Royeca.

Teaming up with telecommunications giant Smart, booths were activated and roving trucks were dispatched in local partner destinations to assist with tourist transportation needs, also generously gifting guests a P25 off voucher for future Angkas rides and Smart freebies. Notably, the company collaborated with local airline Cebu Pacific to extend a warm welcome to arriving tourists at Mactan Airport. Additionally, partner hotels such as Waterfront and Bai Hotels contributed to the effort by hosting booth activations for interested hotel guests.

To enhance the festival spirit, Angkas distributed merchandise and goodies, including whistles and fans, complementing the Sinulog celebration. Angkas riders also tagged along pre-festival events such as the January 11 Walk with Jesus and the January 14 Parade of Sinulog sa Kabataan.

The Sinulog Festival, an annual cultural and religious event on the third Sunday of January, commemorates the arrival of the Sto. Niño in Cebu, marking the beginning of Christianity in the Philippines.

Angkas, under the leadership of Royeca, demonstrates thoughtfulness in their operations, addressing local issues and engaging with current events. Beyond upholding rider welfare, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of user transportation, they actively appreciate and participate in the traditions of their operating locations, as evidenced by their involvement in the 2024 Sinulog Festival.
