INNOVATING the line-up of the full model change of the Toyota Corolla Altis is a hybrid electric version. The 1.8HV is the first in its lineup to feature three of Toyota’s latest technologies in one variant.

And with Hybrid Technology, it helps create an even better world,” Toyota Motors Philippines President Satoru Suzuki said in his speech introducing the new car.
The Corolla Altis 1.8HV hybrid electric variant, marks another milestone in the history of TMP as this is the first time that the Toyota Hybrid technology is made available in a mainstream, high-volume model, boosting the company’s push to provide technologically-advanced and sustainable mobility options to more Filipinos.
The new generation of the Corolla Altis is redesigned with improved performance and accentuated appeal, all while retaining its timeless legacy. The classic model well-loved by Filipinos further elevates its image by enhancing performance, comfort and convenience, while providing peace of mind with its advanced safety features.
At P1.58M, the 1.8HV is priced competitively considering its closest competitor–the Toyota Prius– costs between P2.289M to P2.304M, making it a perfect entry-point for Filipino customers wanting to shift to HEV technology.
The 1.8 HV is powered by a VVT-I, 4-Cylinder In-Line DOHC, 16 Valve engine with 1,798cc displacement and electric motor, 121hp total system maximum output, and 142Nm maximum torque @ 3,600 rpm. It offers a smooth and quiet ride with better fuel efficiency while the battery self-charges during the drive. Three driving modes are available (Sport, Eco, Normal), giving the driver more control.
Having been developed under the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, the whole line up of the all-new Corolla Altis, which still includes its standard 1.6-liter variant has significantly improved its agility, stability, and visibility due to design changes. The driver feels more in control as the lower center of gravity and improved suspension provide less roll and sharper vehicle response.
Visibility is better due to the reduced cowl height, thinner instrument panel, and repositioned mirrors.
Both the driver and passengers feel at ease all throughout the ride with improved sound insulation that provides quiet cabin and comfortable ride. Staying true to TNGA’s pillars of core strength and emphasized personality, the vehicle’s overall drive quality and appeal is elevated.
The design changes also provide a reassuring sense of security with safety features. This includes seven SRS airbags, Anti-Lock Brake System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, and 3-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts for the driver and all passengers.
The high-strength frame of the vehicle adopts a body structure that is designed to absorb impact and disperse the collision energy to minimize cabin deformation in the event of a collision. Structure of the engine hood and cowl louver has also been developed to reduce impact energy to a pedestrian in the unlikely event of a collision.
The 1.8V HV is the second variant in the TMP’s official lineup to feature Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). Some available features were already introduced in the Hiace Super Grandia Elite, such as the Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and Automatic High Beam (AHB).
Several new features are introduced in the 1.8V HV including Lane Tracing Assist which helps keep the vehicle centered while using Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). This function applies force on the steering to assist the driver in avoiding lane departure. DRCC, a variation of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) keeps the car at constant preset speed and will adjust within the set cruise speed upon detection of another vehicle in front to maintain appropriate distance. Full speed range following function enables the vehicle to decelerate to 0km/h when the vehicle in front comes to a full stop
Design changes are also reflected on the exterior with the signature Toyota trapezoidal lower grille that shows off its strong and wide stance. It gives off an even more striking impression with the defined bi-beam LED headlamps and LED line guide Daylight Running Lamps.
The vehicle’s side view silhouette has a dynamic and active look, further emphasizing the low center-of-gravity with the voluminous front and rear bumpers. Sleek defined lines are consistent up to the rear, with full LED rear combination lamps that complement the striking look of the headlamps. 17” alloy wheels (for 1.8 V HV and 1.6V CVT) add sportiness to the overall look of the vehicle.
The regular variants of the all-new Corolla Altis is powered by a Dual VVT-I, 4-Cylinder In-Line DOHC, 16 Valve engine which ensures smooth acceleration, minimal noise, and better fuel efficiency. Displacement is at 1,598cc, with 121hp maximum output, and 153Nm maximum torque @5,200 rpm.
All variants have MacPherson Strut/Double Wishbone Type suspension, providing excellent handling and a more stable and comfortable ride.
It will be available at all Toyota dealerships nationwide from September 21. Prices range from P999K for the entry level 1.6 in manual transmission to P1.2M for the 1.6 CVT.
