EDUCATION technology software leader Instructure, has announced recently a new integration between its Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and Microsoft Reflect. This collaboration aims to enhance mental wellness resources for students and educators worldwide, especially in the lead-up to World Mental Health Day.

The Microsoft Reflect integration allows for seamless incorporation of social-emotional learning (SEL) check-ins directly within the Canvas platform. This feature is designed to make mental wellness resources more accessible to all Canvas users, from K-12 to higher education.

“By integrating Microsoft Reflect into Canvas, we’re creating a more comprehensive platform that supports both student learning and well-being,” explained Elad Graiver, Principal Product Manager at Microsoft Education. “SEL check-ins provide students with a safe space to share their thoughts and feelings, while also offering educators valuable insights for creating a more supportive classroom environment.”

To further support mental wellness initiatives, Instructure has launched a new Mental Wellness Hub within its User Community. This online space serves as a central resource for educators and learners to connect, share best practices, and discuss strategies for promoting mental health in educational settings.

“We believe that mental wellness is essential for successful learning,” said Melissa Loble, Chief Academic Officer at Instructure. “By providing tools and resources that foster emotional well-being, we’re creating a positive and supportive environment for both students and educators.”

Instructure’s focus on mental health aligns with a growing trend in education. A survey by Student Minds revealed that a significant number of university students are struggling with mental health issues. By offering accessible tools like the Microsoft Reflect integration and the Mental Wellness Hub, Instructure aims to address this pressing need and support the overall well-being of its users.

Throughout October, Instructure will be sharing tips, resources, and podcasts on social media to help educators effectively utilize these new tools. The company is committed to fostering healthy and supportive learning environments and providing its community with the resources necessary to prioritize mental health.
