AT ITS recent “Made on YouTube” event, the platform unveiled a range of AI-powered features aimed at assisting both aspiring and established content creators and artists. These innovative tools are designed to eliminate creative barriers, streamline the content creation process, and enable YouTube creators to connect with wider audiences.
One notable development is the introduction of “Dream Screen,” an experimental generative AI feature designed for Shorts. This feature allows creators to effortlessly incorporate AI-generated video or image backgrounds into their Shorts by simply describing their idea. Dream Screen empowers creators to conjure limitless, imaginative settings for their Shorts, unlocking new dimensions of creative expression.
YouTube Shorts itself has witnessed remarkable growth since its 2020 launch, amassing over 70 billion daily views and attracting over 2 billion signed-in users each month.
To further simplify video production, YouTube has introduced the YouTube Create mobile app. This app equips creators with a suite of production tools, facilitating the editing of both Shorts and longer videos. It boasts features like precise editing, automatic captioning, voiceover capabilities, and access to a library of filters, effects, transitions, and royalty-free music with beat matching technology. YouTube consulted with over 3,000 creators during the app’s development. Currently, YouTube Create is in beta on Android in select markets, including the United States, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Indonesia, India, Korea, and Singapore, and it’s available for free.
Additionally, YouTube is integrating “Aloud,” an AI-powered dubbing tool, into its platform to enable creators to reach global audiences beyond their primary language. This feature is undergoing testing in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
In the near future, assistive search in Creator Music will help creators find the perfect soundtrack for their videos. By entering a search query, AI will suggest suitable music, enhancing the video creation process. Currently, Creator Music is available in the United States, with plans for expansion.
YouTube Studio will also leverage generative AI to inspire creators with video ideas and draft outlines tailored to each channel’s audience. Early versions of AI-powered tools have undergone testing with creators, with more than 70 percent reporting that these tools have assisted in developing and testing video ideas.
Neal Mohan, YouTube’s CEO, expressed his excitement about these updates, emphasizing the platform’s commitment to empowering creators worldwide and ushering in a new era of creativity.
Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s Global Head of Music, highlighted the platform’s responsible approach to AI, viewing it as a tool to amplify and accelerate creativity in collaboration with the creative community.
YouTube creators and artists have voiced their enthusiasm for these developments, with creators like Alan Chikin Chow welcoming the dedicated YouTube Create app, Jade Beason appreciating AI-powered insights for efficiency, Cleo Abram emphasizing the accessibility and expansion of creative ideas, and artist Charlie Puth expressing gratitude for YouTube’s AI Music Incubator.
These advancements reflect YouTube’s dedication to fostering creative expression and its commitment to supporting creators and artists in the evolving digital landscape.
