Nokia feature phones are back

REMEMBER those phones that you just plop into your pocket and run for 2 days without needed a recharge? Those phones carry the Nokia nameplate and have resurfaced as HMD Global announced that three new, nostalgic feature phones are now available.

“Classic Nokia heritage is combined with innovation in our feature phone portfolio. This iconic range is gaining momentum as a trusted companion for everyone’s communication needs. In the Philippines, we recognize the unceasing demand in this segment and so we bring new additions to our roster of feature phone models to provide more options for our Filipino fans,” Sancho Chak, general manager for Philippines, Hong Kong and Thailand, HMD Global said.

During the media briefing for the re-minted feature phones, Adam Ferguson, Global Head of Product Marketing at HMD Global explained how feature phones are an alternative to escape technology fatigue and the ‘always on’ culture that is promoted by smartphones.

“We found out that in many industries, these feature phones have ensured connectivity and communications, with less distractions and disruptions. For example, the hotel industry have used our feature phones so that their employees are ensured communication, and they can pay attention to the customer, instead of being on Instagram or Facebook,” Ferguson said, replying to question posed by the media.

As a leader in the $1 billion feature phone market in 2022, HMD Global’s new feature phone launches cement the Nokia phone legacy of unbeaten durability and battery life. This latest portfolio additions reaffirm HMD Global’s commitment to ensuring everyone has access to affordable and long-lasting technology in this phone category as these devices are being released at a time of anxiety for consumers as the cost of living continues to rise.

Four new phones were re-introduced. The Nokia 8210 4G, 5710 XpressAudio and 2660 Flip. The popularity of the 90s Nokia phone line-up reflects customers’ desire to return to a simpler time well timed now, as the 90s consumer culture is seeing a resurgence and resonating with customers.
