SEMICON Southeast Asia 2024, the premier electronics manufacturing and supply chain event in the region, is set to double in size compared to last year. With over 500 exhibitors and 1,000 booths, the event highlights the growing interest in Southeast Asia’s semiconductor sector.
The region boasts a robust chip export market valued at US$200 billion, attributed to its expanding manufacturing capabilities, supportive government policies, and skilled workforce.
Linda Tan, President of SEMI Southeast Asia, noted, “In recent years, Southeast Asia has become a compelling destination for foreign direct investments (FDIs) due to its strategic location, investment-friendly policies, and the region’s diverse workforce.”
The Malaysian government has been instrumental in supporting the growth of the semiconductor sector. YB Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), emphasized the industry’s significant contribution, stating, “In 2023, Malaysia’s Electrical and Electronics (E&E) industry contributed over 40 percent to Malaysia’s total exports.” He also highlighted the government’s commitment to further bolstering the industry under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP2030) and the National Semiconductor Strategic Task Force (NSSTF).
SEMICON Southeast Asia 2024 aims to provide a platform for industry stakeholders to connect, share knowledge, and explore growth opportunities. The event will feature various regional pavilions, new programs like the Regional Human Resource Forum and Tech IDOL Competition, and diverse forums on market trends, sustainability, and smart initiatives.
Additionally, it will offer workforce development initiatives and networking opportunities.
The event is supported by strategic partnerships with key organizations such as Invest Selangor, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), and Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
