DIFFERENTIATION between smartphones these days comes with the vital statistics that it boasts about. As innovations for processors, cameras, displays and resolutions are were mostly coming off-the-shelf, Vivo decided to break the habit by focusing on the software, an innovative waterfall display while introducing a unique front camera.
The Vivo Nex 3 shows off its photography skills with a triple camera with various high definition resolutions–a 64-megapixel main camera, 13MP wide-angle camera and a 13MP super macro camera. This may not sound competitive with the quad or even its own 6-camera set up on the Vivo V17, but this was not the point of how the way the camera was set up.
“Achieving HD clarity as a standard for all photos is the basis of the choices of lenses and resolutions. This upgraded camera allows users to capture life’s splendor down to the last detail,” Colwin Tanhenco of Vivo’s Brand Management Group said.
Up front, the 16MP elevating front camera with its purpose-fit motor and customized gear box ensure smooth elevation that operates stably and quickly. The extended selfie camera also had one advantage–a different depth of field outside of the frame of the camera. The motorized camera module also houses the front-facing flash.
I initially doubted the resilience of the front camera because previous experiences with things popping out of the device only ended in frustration. It would either break off, or not operate at all. Tanhenco assured me (referring me to a video) showing how the internal framing and gears of the device consisted of just a few moving parts, as well as a strong frame over the body structure.
The AMOLED Waterfall FullView display stretches and curves the smartphone screen along its sides to provide users with broader, borderless views. The 6.89-inch notch-free display has a significantly improved 99.6 percent screen-to-body ratio to offer consumers a breathtaking visual experience.
The display aspect ratio is 18.8:9. The documentary declaration feels a lot different when clasping the device. It feels smaller than it is, as even the robust plastic case to house it is reduced by quite a bit. It also enables scrolling the display contents from the sides, leaving the large canvas for viewing.
Max brightness on the screen gives a full gamut of color. The HDR10 capabilities with the OLED configuration produces vivid colors, the contrast was high, and the blacks were crisp.
This latest gem from Vivo is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 855+ chipset. The Nex 3 review unit in our possession had 8GB of RAM and a UFS 3.0 storage. It has a novel dual WLAN Acceleration technology can use two Wi-Fi signal networks at the same time to greatly boost the network speed and facilitate smoother use.
Vivo’s AI assistant, Jovi, has been upgraded to enable a fully intelligent flagship experience based on the Vivo Computation Acceleration Platform (VCAP).
The platform offers AI algorithms for software optimization and enhanced user habit learning for deeper AI integration — providing an impressive speed boost with a personalized experience.
Vivo has also fitted this phone with a heatsinks and heat dissipation chambers to keep it running cool. Running on such a powerful platform requires the thermals are always in check and at optimum operating temperature to sustain peak performance for longer.
I downloaded a lot of intense 3D games to run and the Nex 3 rarely got uncomfortably warm.
The specifications form only a part of the gaming experience, with the display and rich audio completing the experience. The large display definitely helps with the gaming, with the curve edges making it a little slippery to grasp the phone. But when the dark grey phone case is installed, there seems to be much better grip for game play. Plugging in the headphones did provide a notch for fingers to grip over. But I was just playing racing and sniper games, which, by any measure requires stability and fast processor speed, which the Vivo Nex 3 had loads of.
Interestingly, for PUBG Mobile, where a lot of the interaction elements are located along the edges, the curved screen did not make for accidental touch issues.
Reiterating the processing engine again, the Vivo Nex 3 is powered by Snapdragon 855 Plus with 2.96Hz Octa-core processor, Qualcomm’s first 5G solution, and UFS 3.0 high-speed flash memory, NEX 3 provides top computing performance, smooth multitasking capabilities, ultra-high download speeds (over 1Gbps), ultra-low latency and robust network reliability
A 4500mAh battery gives NEX users the fuel to go through their day feeling unrestrained, while Vivo Super FlashCharge 44W and C-DRX power-saving technologies ensure low power is a thing of the past. The Vapor Chamber Cooling System meanwhile supplies power while remaining cool even with heavy 5G usage. NEX 3 is equipped with 8GB/12GB storage and supports global frequency bands and NFC.
“This new Vivo phone focuses on both the software and hardware strengths to give a great value at its price of P39,990. The amount of artificial intelligence and great hardware fit into it makes it one of the most stunning flagship phones in our line up,” Tanhenco emphasized as he mentioned that the Vivo NEX 3 will soon be available at all authorized Vivo outlets nationwide.
