ADVANCED Info Service (AIS), one of Thailand’s leading mobile network operators, has announced its plans to deploy Oracle Alloy and launch AIS Cloud. This will be the country’s first locally owned and operated hyperscale cloud, offering access to over 100 Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services, including advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.

AIS, with a substantial customer base of over 45 million subscribers, aims to leverage the cloud’s potential for business growth and innovation. The AIS Cloud will address critical data residency and sovereignty requirements in Thailand, such as the Personal Data Protection (PDPA) Act and the Cybersecurity Act. Additionally, it will provide in-country disaster recovery capabilities, enhancing business resilience.

Somchai Lertsutiwong, CEO of AIS, emphasized the company’s commitment to digital infrastructure development and collaboration with partners for effective digital transformation. He highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration with Oracle, stating, “This strategic collaboration between Oracle and AIS will not only accelerate AIS’ transformation from a ‘Telco to a Techco’ but also unlock the immense potential for digital transformation and AI innovation for all organizations.”

AIS Cloud will be deployed in two AIS data centers within Thailand, operated by AIS, and will offer cloud services with local support. Customer information will be stored in Thailand, ensuring compliance with data sovereignty and regulatory requirements.

Garrett Ilg, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Japan & Asia Pacific, Oracle, expressed Oracle’s commitment to providing choice and recognized the significance of this collaboration for Thailand. He stated, “Thailand is a strategic market for Oracle and the Oracle Alloy collaboration with AIS will serve as an industry gamechanger for the country.”

Daphne Chung, Research Director, Cloud Services and Software Research, IDC Asia/Pacific, provided insights into the growing trend of sovereign cloud adoption, stating, “IDC forecasts spending on sovereign cloud to increase at 31.5 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in APEJ.”
