EPSON Philippines recently concluded the inaugural phase of its “Trash to Treasure” initiative, marking a significant step towards fostering sustainability and community involvement. The program underscores Epson’s steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility and its dedication to enhancing the well-being of local communities.
Launched in 2023, Epson Philippines’ “Trash to Treasure” initiative encourages active participation from employees through the donation of specific types of clean plastic waste, such as plastic bottles, egg containers, shampoo bottles, toothpaste tubes, courier pouches, food containers, cutlery, straws, potato chip bags, milk jugs, cooking oil containers, and shopping bags.
Throughout the year, Epson Philippines collected a total of 162 kilograms of clean plastic, which were subsequently donated to the Pasig City Environmental Resources and Waste Management Office (CENRO). These materials were then repurposed by CENRO’s partner organizations into various items like vases and chairs.
Participation in the program is straightforward, involving three simple steps for employees.
First, they review the list of accepted plastics. Second, they ensure that all donated plastics are thoroughly cleaned and air-dried.
Lastly, employees drop off their donations at designated bins within the office premises, where the plastics are weighed. The collected clean plastics are then forwarded to Pasig CENRO to support recycling endeavors.
Masako Kusama, President and Director of Epson Philippines, emphasized the significance of the “Trash to Treasure” program, stating, “In launching our ‘Trash to Treasure’ program, we are actively addressing waste management while demonstrating Epson’s commitment to responsible practices. This initiative reflects our ongoing efforts to make a positive impact on our environment and support the communities we serve.”
Epson’s dedication to environmentally conscious initiatives extends beyond this program and is evident in its innovative technologies, corporate projects, and the integration of recycled materials in some of its products and packaging.
Through initiatives like “Trash to Treasure,” Epson actively engages its employees, consumers, and partners in fostering responsible consumption and waste reduction practices.
The company intends to sustain the “Trash to Treasure” program as part of its broader environmental stewardship endeavors, encouraging continuous participation and collaboration to convert waste into valuable resources and promote a more sustainable future for all. Masako Kusama concluded, “We are thrilled to continue our sustainability efforts following the successful first round of the ‘Trash to Treasure’ program. This initiative aligns with Epson’s broader mission to leverage our technologies and engage our employees in creating a more sustainable future for all.”
