Alibaba Cloud expands reach, AI capabilities

Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence arm of Alibaba Group, has announced significant investments in its global infrastructure and AI offerings. The company plans to launch its first cloud region in Mexico and establish new data centers in Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and South Korea within the next three years. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for AI and cloud services across various industries.

Selina Yuan, President of International Business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding its AI infrastructure and cloud capacities worldwide. She also highlighted the importance of digital talent initiatives, in collaboration with global universities and local partners, to equip the future workforce with AI skills.

Alibaba Cloud’s Model Studio, a generative AI development platform, will soon be available for international customers via its Singapore Availability Zones. This platform will provide access to Alibaba Cloud’s large language model Qwen family, enabling customers to develop custom generative AI applications.

To enhance the customer experience, Alibaba Cloud has deepened its collaboration with SAP to launch a one-stop enterprise solution for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Asia. This integrated cloud-based business management solution combines SAP Business One’s capabilities with Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure, offering SMEs a powerful ERP system on the cloud without significant upfront investment.

In China, Alibaba Cloud is developing a Salesforce on Alibaba Cloud training course for multinational companies operating in the country. This course aims to equip over 10,000 participants with the necessary skills to master the Salesforce platform by the end of 2025.

Alibaba Cloud is also collaborating with international universities like the University of Reading, Singapore University of Social Sciences, and others to introduce cloud computing and AI courses, nurturing a new generation of AI experts.

The company has already garnered a growing base of international customers, including LVMH Group and FathomX, who have leveraged Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure and AI technologies to accelerate their digital transformation and drive innovation. Additionally, Alibaba Cloud has partnered with the International Canoe Federation (ICF) to explore AI-driven ESG solutions for reducing environmental impact at their events.
