Trade Secretary Cristina Roque encouraged global fintech company PayPal to further expand its presence in the Philippines by integrating with local e-commerce platforms and online marketplaces in the country, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.
In a statement yesterday, the DTI said Roque met with Suzan Kereere, president of global markets at PayPal on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, Switzerland.
Roque explored strategic collaborations with PayPal that would enhance the digital financial inclusion of Philippine micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and broaden their access to cross-border trade opportunities.
The DTI did not disclose details but said Roque pushed for further measures that would facilitate seamless transactions for Filipino businesses, particularly MSMEs and consumers through partnerships with local merchants and electronic commerce platforms.
The DTI said during the meeting, PayPal officials commended the Philippines for its progress in financial inclusion and outlined its tailored solutions for small businesses.
“The discussion also centered on advancements in financial inclusion, increased MSME transaction volumes… and the creation of a division for small businesses,” the DTI said.
