The display of the latest cars, the gleam of polished paint, and the excited chatter of car enthusiasts – these are the hallmarks of the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).
Since its inception in 2006, PIMS has evolved into a major event on the Philippine automotive calendar, showcasing the industry’s latest innovations and providing a glimpse into the future of mobility.
The Philippine International Motor Show was conceived during an executive board meeting. The PR Committee of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), through its secretary-general then, Homer Maranan, made a proposal for an industry motor show. The year was 2005, and the Philippine automotive industry was surging.
CAMPI President then, Elizabeth Lee approved the development of the concept for an industry-led motor show.
The CAMPI PR Committee, led by Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc’s Senior Manager for Marketing and Sales, Raymond B. Tribdino, with Isuzu Philippines Corp.’s PR Head Timmy Naval de Leon and PR Lead Nora Liquido and Mitsubishi Motors Corp.’s (MMC) Senior Marketing and PR Manager Arlan Reyes.
After almost a year of development, the proposals went through five revisions before the final deck was approved in March 2006. The PR team presented several names including “The Manila Auto Show” and “The Philippine Motor Show.” The name “Philippine International Motor Show” was selected to incorporate the coming in of more car makers to the country.
The first Philippine International Motor Show was organized and run by Sophie de los Santos through her events management group TransSport Show International. Sophie was selected because of the decades long expertise in running automotive shows and the first PIMS opened its doors on August 9, 2007 at the World Trade Center, it ran until August 12, 2007.
