Vic, Maine contract is ‘for life’

The “AlDub” love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza may have taken a backseat this year — but Maine’s partnership with “Eat Bulaga” mainstay Vic Sotto remains strong.

The two are father and daughter on TV’s “Daddy’s Gurl” and on the big screen, in last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “Jak Em Poy: The Puliscredibles.” This year, they are co-stars in “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity” where Maine gets to play against type in a bida-kontrabida role.

This is the first time the two are not playing father and daughter.

“May kontrata kaming dalawa, for life. Forever,” Vic joked at the press con of the movie last Friday.

“Marami siyang mga offers, ako naman kung meron akong concept na bagay sa kanya, naiiba, talagang maganda na kasama si Maine. Ang maganda dito sa pelikulang eto, ‘Mission Unstapabol,’ ibang Maine Mendoza ang mapapanood.”

Maine said she truly enjoys working with Vic. “May kontrata po kami, ten-year contract,” she cracked, “Syempre masaya ako kasi lagi nya akong pinipili, lagi niya akong gustong makasama. Ako naman thankful every time I am with him outside sa ‘Bulaga’ at outside sa ‘Daddy’s Girl.’ Very thankful ako.”

Should there be other offers, someone asked Maine, will she still choose to work with Bossing Vic?

“Syempre,” she quickly replied.

“Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity” is billed as a heist movie that centers around Vic’s character, the excellent strategist that is Don Robert Fortun and his motley crew of experts collectively known as “The Dons.” The Dons are Don Zulueta (Pokwang), wrestler Don Johnson (Jake Cuenca), car race Kikong (Jelson Bay), and the mysterious hacker Donna (Maine). The Dons, under the leadership of Robert, will pull off the biggest plan to obtain the famed Pearl of the Orient from the hands of Robert’s scheming brother Benjamin Fortun (Jose Manala). At the same time, Robert wants to clear his name.

“Don Robert will do everything to vindicate himself in a crime he did not commit,” says Vic, “He will be in a relentless quest for truth and justice. It’s both interesting and exciting to see how his character will evolve in the film.”

Director Mike Tuviera says the movie is an action-adventure with a lot of Filipino values injected in the story. “The movie is jampacked with positive Filipino values. There is a lesson to be learned here — the good will always be rewarded and justice will always be served. At the end of the movie, people will also discover that the most important things this Christmas season are family, forgiveness and love.”

Written by Don Santella, Michelle Ngu and Aloy Adlawan, “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity” is the Metro Manila Film Festival entry of MZet Productions and APT Entertainment opening on Dec. 25.

“Entertaining siya, at the same time, paglabas mo, naka smile ka,” said Vic, “’Yun naman gusto naming gawin pag Christmas, paligayahin ang mga manonood.”

Is he expecting to top the local Christmas film fest?

“Hindi ko na iniisip,” said Vic, who has been a fixture in the MMFF for more than ten years,

“It doesn’t really matter. Sa akin personally, ang gusto ko, kumita ang festival. Sana ma break ang record nung previous year. Mabigat pero parang kakayanin kasi magaganda naman ang mga entries.”

Kahit third runner up ok lang basta maganda resulta box office. Graduate na ako dyan. (wala na dapat patunayan) siguro nga.
