MAJORITY of Filipinos believe that women are better than men when it comes to governance, a commissioned survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.
In the March 15 to 20 survey commissioned by the Stratbase Consultancy Group, 51 percent said women are better than men in terms of governance, while 22 percent disagreed and 26 percent neither agreed nor disagreed.
This resulted in a net agreement (percent of agree minus percent of disagree) rating of +29.
The survey was conducted among 1,800 adult respondents and has a margin of error of ±2.31 percent.
Among the female respondents, 58 percent also said women are better at governance work compared to their male counterparts. This sentiment was shared by majority of the male respondents, or 45 percent.
Only 17 percent of the women respondents and 28 percent of the men who were surveyed disagreed.
Across geographical locations and those from the women sector, 52 percent of the respondents from Metro Manila and Mindanao, and 51 percent from Luzon and Visayas said women are better at governance work.
SWS also found that 55 percent (up from 53 percent in September) believe that women struggle to enter politics unless she comes from a political family, while 25 percent (down from 32 percent) disagreed and 19 percent (up from 14 percent) said they neither agree nor disagree.
Majority of the respondents, or 74 percent, likewise said women politicians are more likely to advocate for social services or issues such as education and healthcare, with 12 percent disagreeing and 14 percent undecided.
This sentiment is highest among respondents from Metro Manila at 88 percent (7 percent disagree), followed by Luzon at 79 percent (7 percent disagree), Visayas at 65 percent (17 percent disagree), and Mindanao at 65 percent (17 percent disagree).
SWS released the survey results at the close of March, which is considered as women’s month worldwide.
