HOPING to build on the success of the national squash team in the last 30th Southeast Asian Games, the Philippine Squash Academy is launching a flurry of activities aimed at further promoting and popularizing the racket sport.

Kayod Pilipinas, as the national squash team is popularly known, achieved a golden breakthrough in the last SEA Games by ruling the mixed team event for the country’s first mint in the discipline since joining the squash competitions in the 1991 Manila Games.

The local racket-wielders also had their best finish in the biennial meet, winding up second overall with a haul of one gold, two silver and two bronze medals behind overall titlist Malaysia, which copped the overall squash title with a 4-1-1 tally.

On top of the list is the PSA registration and membership program for interested clubs and individuals “to build and grow our squash community based under the national sports federation to encourage participation in our local events and help strengthen and support our plans and programs for the year (2020),” according to PSA president Robert Bachmann.

Bachmann posted the link of the PSA membership and registration on the PSA Facebook page detailing the process requirements.

He also announced that the sports association is looking forward to the completion and opening of the multi-story national squash training center inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex built by the Philippine Sports Commission.

“Philippine squash finally has a home,” Bachmann said of the facility located beside the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, just a stone’s throw away from the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

He said members of the national team will continue to train and compete abroad, including the 6th Southeast Asian Squash championships next month as well as the 20th Asian Team Championships in Kula Lumpur, Malaysia.
