Report on Isabela bridge collapse out next month – Palace

COMMUNICATIONS undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro yesterday said the special committee investigating the collapse of the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge in Isabela is expected to submit its report next month.

Castro said the special committee was formed in response to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

“According to (DPWH) Secretary (Manuel) Bonoan the committee is due submit its report by April 25,” Castro said.

Marcos early this month inspected the collapsed bridge and ordered a thorough investigations on the incident to determine who should be held accountable for it and the next action the government would take, including the possible repair and reinforcement of the infrastructure.

The president had said that the collapse was caused by a “design problem.”

A portion of the bridge collapsed on February 27 and left six persons injured after trucks weighing around 100 tons passed by the bridge that was designed only for vehicles weighing 44 tons.
