The government’s economic czar yesterday said franchising is a good opportunity for Filipinos wishing to invest their hard-earned money in business.
Secretary Frederick Go, special assistant to the President for investment and economic affairs, said franchising model helps reduce the risks associated with starting a business.
“Going to business is a risk. Franchising can really help mitigate that risk. But you have to find a solid brand, a franchisor that has a long, good track record of success and a good reputation. When you undertake that, it helps reduce the risk involved in making entrepreneurial investments,” Go said.
When asked what government policies are needed to support franchising, Go said the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has existing programs, including financing, for the industry.
He added DTI’s foreign trade desks in all the important economies of the world are promoting not just Philippine products and services in their host countries, but also franchising of Filipino brands,” Go said.
The Philippine Franchise Association yesterday opened the two-day Franchise Asia Philippines and International Conference at the SMX Convention Center.
This year’s theme is “Empowerment Through Franchising: Explore Expand Excel.”
