With star middle blocker Mika Reyes and setter Rhea Dimaculangan missing the game due to injuries, Sisi Rondina and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas led the Blaze Spikers to a 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 victory over F2 Logistics.

Rondina fired 17 points while Maizo-Pontillas delivered 14 markers for the Blaze Spikers, who are out to book a return stint to the finals of the tourney cut short to give way to the country’s hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games this November.

“What we have is a very short tourney so every game counts,” said Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos, who will also call the shots for the national women’s volleyball team in the prestigious biennial meet.

“But we can’t judge ourselves based on our first game. We still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do. Yes, this is a short tournament and we want to win as early as possible. But we can’t afford to look too far. We just have to take who’s in front of us.”
