MORE than P228.2 million worth of food and non-food relief items have been distributed to communities in the Negros Island that have been affected by the unceasing restiveness of Kanlaon volcano.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) yesterday said Kanlaon emitted ash from the summit and generated grayish plumes that rose 300 to 500 meters above the crater before drifting in a general southwest direction.

Data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) showed that the agency has provided more than P125.9 million worth of humanitarian assistance to those affected by Kanlaon’s restiveness since last December, P30.39 million from local government units, P33.45 million from non-government organizations (NGOs), and P38 million from private partners.
