Nearly 38% of Pinoys say politics ‘magulo’

A THIRD of Filipino voters view politics in the country as “magulo” (disorderly) while a fifth said it is “corrupt or all about money,” the February 20 to 26 survey of Pulse Asia showed.

The survey showed that 37.9 percent described Philippine politics as “magulo” while 17.3 percent said it was “pera-pera/korap” and 10.9 percent said it was about “awayan/watak-watak/walang pagkakaisa) fighting and lack of unity.

Pulse Asia said “magulo” was also the top description used across all geographic areas (31.7 percent to 45.1 percent) and “socio-economic classes” (29.8 percent to 42.3 percent).

Other descriptions used by Filipino voters were “dayaan/dugasan/bilihan ng boto (cheating/vote buying) at 5.8 percent; “maayos” (orderly) at 4.2 percent, “madumi” (dirty) at 3.2 percent, and “eksklusibo/dinastiya/elitista” (exclusive, dynasties or elitists) and “paasa/pangakuan” (false promises) both at 2.6 percent.

Other descriptions were “makasarili/personal na interes ang nangingibabaw” (selfish/ prioritizing personal interests) at 1.7 percent; “agawan sa pwesto” (fighting over a position) and “mahina ang pamahalaan, di natutugunan ang mga pangunahing problema (weak governance and failure to respond to key issues) at 1.4 percent each;

“kriminalidad nanumbalik” (return of criminality) at 1.3 percent, “abusado/inaabuso ang kanilang posisyon/gahaman sa posisyon” (abuse of position) at 1.2 percent, “Patayan” (killings) at 1.1 percent and “mahirap ang kalagayan/pamumuhay (difficult living situation) at 1 percent.

Pulse Asia said less than one percent of Filipinos also described politics as “hindi patas,” “bulok,” “mapayapa,” “walang pagbabago,” “balimbingan,” “maraming anomalya,” “komplikado/masalimuot,” “nagkakaisa,” “mababa ang standard/kahit sino na lang tumatakbo,” “makapangyarihan ang mga politiko,” “daming ayuda,” “popularidad lang,” and “walang paninindigan.”
