MALACANANG yesterday warned that those who misuse or abuse the emergency broadcast system would be held accountable and charged accordingly.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro reminded everyone that the emergency broadcast system, as its name suggests, is for “emergencies.”
“Do not abuse the emergency cell broadcast system because it is only for emergencies. This should not be abused and used by anyone for personal gains,” Castro said.
The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) said they have received multiple reports from residents in certain provinces that they have received emergency alerts that included messages asking them to vote for certain candidates.
Castro said the Department of Information and Communications (DICT) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) have already started their investigations on the incident, “and whoever is proven to have violated the law will be charged.”
