PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. yesterday reminded newly promoted police generals to always let their actions be rooted in what is right, what must be done, and what is legally ordered, as well as to find a balance between the demands of law enforcement and preserving institutional integrity and adhering to human rights.

The President, during the oath-taking of the 39 police generals in Malacanang, also told the police officials to always carry in their hearts their oath to “faithfully, honestly, and unequivocally uphold and defend the Constitution.

“As you don your new badges, remember you are not only rising in rank, you are also rising in responsibility. You are stepping up into a position that demands no less than the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and respect for human rights at all times,” Marcos said.

He said Filipinos now, more than ever, have higher expectations from a police force that is “reliable, responsive, and resolutely committed to protecting the lives of every Filipino”.

He said Filipinos expect to live in a safe, fair, and just environment where peace and order are observed while upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens.

The President said it would not be easy, but “let us ensure we all live up to those expectations. We must meet them with every ounce of our strength. We must not falter. We must deliver.”

Marcos also said the police generals should always perform their duties with utmost dedication, integrity, and accountability, bearing in mind that the trust and confidence placed in them demands that they always do their very best.

He said the police generals should also lead by example.

“You have been entrusted with the daunting but noble responsibility of leadership—to guide, to discipline, and to inspire the men and women under your command. Ensure that all PNP personnel are fulfilling their duties with integrity, competence, and trustworthiness, considering that our police force plays a very significant role in maintaining peace and order, protecting communities, and responding in times of calamities,” he added.

The President said the country recognizes and is thankful for their hard work as well as the sacrifices of their families.

Marcos administered the oath to four Police Lieutenant Generals, 11 Police Major Generals and 24 Police Brigadier Generals during simple ceremonies in Malacañang.

The police generals include Lt. Generals Robert Rodriguez, Bernardo Banac, Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., Edgar Aan Okubo and Major General Nicolas Torre III.
