PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. wants Filipinos to live a “life of meaning and purpose” and is wishing for the spirit of Christmas to make love and peace abound in every home.
In his Christmas Day message, the President said the Christmas season is a crucial part of the deeply-held beliefs of Filipinos as “it heralds the birth of Jesus Christ, our savior.”
“It also marks the moment we experience the presence of God in its nearest and most intimate form, evoking gratitude, kindness, and happiness to one and all,” he said.
“This makes both the celebration and significance of Christmas transcend the constraints of religion, extending its invitation of joy and thanksgiving to everyone no matter their background,” Marcos said.
He said that as Filipinos spend the highly anticipated holiday to return to their homes, reconnect with their loved ones, and relish the blessings of the past year, “I call on everyone to reflect on what is truly important: living a life of meaning and purpose.”
He also asked the public to emulate the light that led the wise men to meet the infant Jesus in the manger, and help others see and experience the same hope that the Lord offered everyone in the endeavor of his administration to build a Bagong Pilipinas.
The social action arm of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is likewise calling on Filipinos to celebrate Christmas with others in their minds and hearts.
In its Christmas Message, Caritas Philippines appealed to the faithful to not limit their celebrations to just their families and friends.
“As we gather with our loved ones this Christmas, may we carry the light of Christ in our hearts and continue to share His hope and joy with others,” said Caritas Philippines President Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo.
In doing so, he said Christmas will be felt by everyone, especially those most in need.
“Let us work together to build a world, where no one is left behind—a world of peace, justice, and love,” said Bagaforo.
Caritas Philippines, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to everyone, who has supported the programs and activities of the organization.
“Caritas Philippines extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone, who has been part of our journey this year… This year, we have reached communities deeply impacted by disasters, climate change, and human rights abuses,” said the prelate.
Bagaforo also lauded all its Social Action Centers in the different dioceses and archdioceses for helping the programs of Caritas Philippines. – With Gerard Naval
