JaDine needs a project fast

GABBI Garcia is definitely an asset in GMA-7’s new weekend show, “All Out Sundays” (AOS). She sings, dances and also does good hosting. We noticed she even has better chemistry with Alden Richards than the one GMA has chosen to pair with him, Julie Ann San Jose.

When Gabbi was paired with Alden in introducing one segment, she proved to be a bubbly, lively host, especially when you consider that Alden seemed to be feeling low that time. In his dance numbers, we felt Alden was just going through the motions and he lacked the dynamism and that extra spark needed to make his dancing really more alive and energetically contagious. Some told us: “Napagod at napuyat kasi ‘yan sa birthday party he hosted for his fans in Enchanted Kingdom last night.”

Gabbi was a part of the erstwhile “Sunday PinaSaya” and she’s fortunate she’s one of those retained in AOS. Some of her colleagues there were not as lucky as she is. She’s also happy she and her family were able to move to their new home in the South where they spent their first Christmas.

“Pinagtulungan namin ‘yun ng mom ko,” she says. “It has to be in the south para malapit sa airport kasi she’s a flight attendant.”

So if she didn’t get to showbiz, she’d follow in her mom’s footsteps? “No. Actually, mas gusto kong maging pilot, but showbiz happened and I’m glad na hindi ako nababakante.

Aside from ‘AOS’, I’m also in primetime in ‘Beautiful Justice’ which I just really love kasi first time ko makatrabaho sina Yasmien Kurdi and Bea Binene and naging maganda ang samahan namin. We’re really close now, like sisters.”

Are James Reid and Nadine Lustre still together or are they now separated? Nadine has denied this, but the nasty rumors persist, since she has already left the house in Quezon City that she and James shared for two years and moved to her own condo unit in Makati.

There are proofs they’re still in a relationship. There were pictures of them spending the New Year together and then last weekend, they even went mountain climbing in Itogon, Benguet. Someone says this is possible because even if they’re no longer officially on, they have remained good friends.

Other say they are still protecting their love team, which was their ticket to stardom after Viva Films paired them in several hit movies. Nadine has gone solo but her movies without James, like “Ulan” with Carlo Aquino and “Indak” with Sam Concepcion, did not do well at the box office. So, it’s obvious they really need each other.

The problem is James doesn’t seem to be that interested in his career anymore. He left Viva and is now managing his own career and he seems to be more interested in his own recording company. ABS-CBN was pairing him with a Korean actress in a soap but we heard this is not happening, too. Well, the sooner the James-Nadine love team makes another project together, the better for them. As has been proven before, there is truth in the adage “out of sight, out of mind.”

The stars of three actors in the recently concluded MMFF seem to have dimmed in their respective entries. We were honestly shocked when we saw Mark Anthony Fernandez playing just one of the prisoners in “Miracle in Cell No. 7.” Mark played many lead roles, so it’s quite a shock for us to see him as just one of the antagonists to Aga Muhlach in the movie.

Not only that, everyone knows that in real life, he spent about a year in jail in Pampanga for some marijuana found in his car. And here he is shooting a movie in prison. Wonder how he felt while they’re shooting his scenes behind bars.

Then there’s Sam Milby, who used to be one of Star Cinema’s top leading men in many romcoms. Now, he plays a bad guy in “3Pol Trobol, Huli Ka Balbon” who tries to rape Jennylyn Mercado and ends up being brutally killed by Coco Martin with a spear that pierced his chest. Wonder if he’d still be able to go back to doing lead roles after this movie.

Then there’s Jose Manalo. When 2019 started, he played the lead title role no less in the very first movie shown last year, “Boy Tokwa, Lodi ng Olongapo”, which was released right after the 2018 Metro Filmfest. As 2019 ended, he is seen playing a very mean, scheming contravida to Bossing Vic Sotto in “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity.” He’s a baddie through and through, with no redeeming factor. But at least, Jose is known more of as a comedian and we have no doubt he can quickly bounce back with the help of his regular exposure in “Eat Bulaga.”

There are two other stars who people thought would help the movies, where they appear in as special guests, entice more people to watch it in theaters. These are Mayor Isko Moreno and the MIA (missing in action) John Lloyd Cruz. Sadly, their presence was not enough to attract more viewers. Yorme Isko is in “3Pol Trobol,@ appearing in three sequences as the town mayor who helps Coco get to the president to reveal the corruption of Tirso Cruz III and Edu Manzano. As we all know, “3Pol Trobol” did not even earn as much as the previous MMFF entries of Coco, “Ang Panday” and “Jack Em Popoy.”

John Lloyd appeared in “Culion” as the ex-boyfriend of Meryll Soriano who visits her in the leper colony. There was a big to do about this on the part of the production company that made it. But alas, not even his presence could help the movie at all at the box office, which earned only P4 million during its entire run.
