Miss Earth 2018 Nguyen Phuong Khanh is taking on a different mission in Manila these days — to become one of the judges for the Miss Bikini Philippines 2019 pageant.
On her third visit to the country, Nguyen said that she is excited to promote the said contest which will be held at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Theater in Quezon City on Nov. 28.
“We are not only looking for a girl who advocates beauty and brains but health and wealth as well,” said Nguyen during an interview at the Joy Nostalg Hotel in Pasig City.
Nguyen added, “The candidates should be slim and fit because for Miss Bikini Philippines, strong is beautiful.”
Under new management, the Miss Bikini Philippines 2019 pageant is produced by ProMedia Productions. The final screening for the official candidates was held at the Function Room of 515 Vista Shaw Residences last Nov. 16. The official candidates, meanwhile, will be presented to the press at Bellini Suites at Presidio, Lakefront in Muntinlupa City today, Nov. 19.
Nguyen is passionate about health and fitness as she took the hard route to achieve a beautiful body. “ When I competed in Miss Earth 2018, I really worked out almost everyday,” she said.
When she was younger, this English-speaking Vietnamese revealed that she was always body-shamed for her looks. “People told me I was fat and that would always disappoint me.
I cried every time they told me that,” Nguyen said.
The beauty queen said that you have to do something for yourself if you do not feel good.
“So I decided to exercise a lot. I run and I am also learning how to swim to keep me fit all the time.”
Nguyen said that people would feel confident if they look good and feel good.
“Those who bullied me in the past had already approached me and inquired about getting fit,” she also said.
Nguyen, 24, has a simple beauty regimen to achieve glowing and healthy-looking skin.”I usually sleep eight hours a day. For facial care, I only use light make-up. And every night, before I go to sleep, I put on a facial mask,” she shared
But for her, real beauty really comes from within. “If you feel confident and beautiful, it will radiate outside.”
She counts Victoria’s Secret angels as her mood boosters and inspiration for a beautiful body. “Whenever I feel down, I just switch on the video to watch them. How I wish I could be like them.”
In 2020, Nguyen is expected to launch her own fashion line. She’s having second thoughts about going into acting because it’s not in her blood to act.
The first Miss Earth from Vietnam is also fluent in French. She learned how to speak good English when she took up marketing at Curtin University in Singapore for four years.
“I’m happy every time I visit the Philippines because Filipinos make me feel like I am a part of the family. Besides, Vietnam and Philippines have many similarities in terms of culture and traditions,” she said.
The Miss Bikini Philippines 2019 winner will receive P300,000 plus other prizes. The first runner-up and second runner-up will get P200,000 cash and P100,000 cash, respectively.
