Hyundai strengthens MPV line-up with latest models

HYUNDAI Motor Philippines, Inc. (HMPH) recently unveiled its strengthened lineup of Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs), demonstrating a strong presence in this segment with models like the Starex, Grand Starex, Staria, and Stargazer. The latest additions to their collection include the New Custin and Stargazer X.

The Stargazer X, was first debuted at the Gaiikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Jakarta, This bolder and sportier variant of the Hyundai Stargazer comes with advanced technology and increased space. It caters to individuals valuing individuality and utility equally.

The exterior boasts a black roof with rails, a new 3D stacked front grille, and refined character lines on the engine hood. The rear features a spoiler extension, redesigned bumper, and distinct H-shaped tail lights with black lamp bezels. Side enhancements include sills and wheel arch trims, along with 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels for improved ground clearance, especially on uneven roads.

Inside, the Stargazer X exudes athleticism and premium comfort. A new piano black dashboard panel, red stitching on the black seats, and an updated overhead console lamp enhance the interior. With a generous 585-liter space capacity and flexible 2nd and 3rd row seats, this MPV accommodates diverse hauling needs. The Stargazer X offers the longest wheelbase and body in its segment, ensuring ample leg and headroom.

As it’s based on the Stargazer GLS premium variant, the X inherits its best-in-class convenience and tech features. This includes features like Remote Engine Start, Window Control, six chargers (including a wireless one in the first row), and thirty storage solutions. An Electronic Parking Brake with Autohold function, enabled by replacing rear brake drums with discs, has been integrated. Additionally, a front parking distance warning and other Hyundai SmartSense advanced driver assistance features are present.

The Stargazer X is the new top-of-the-line variant and is priced at PHP 1,348,000. Available color options include Creamy White Pearl, Magnetic Silver Metallic, and Dragon Red Pearl.

Hyundai also introduced the Custin, a large MPV aimed at raising the standards for modern family carriers. Its design is influenced by Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness concept. The exterior features a parametric diamond design grille with hidden daytime running lights, 18-inch dynamic blade aluminum alloy wheels, aircraft wing-like tail lights, and spelled-out letters in place of the traditional Hyundai emblem.

The interior draws inspiration from the luxury of private jets, offering maximum comfort with a slimmer “cockpit” and flatter floor. The Custin leads in space with an overall length of 4,950-mm, a wheelbase of 3,055-mm, and a ground clearance of 170-mm, ensuring easy access for passengers.

The top-of-the-line Custin variant features a 7-seat configuration with 2nd-row captain chairs, relaxation mode, 10-way power seat adjustment, and ventilating and heating functions. It also includes dual sunroofs, rear curtains, and backseat tables with a tablet stand.

The Custin offers a 10.4-inch large Infotainment System, an Electronic Parking Brake, Drive Mode selector, and wireless chargers in the 1st and 2nd rows. It includes Smart Power Sliding doors for safe entry and exit, especially in tight parking spaces.

Powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-charged Smartstream engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Custin achieves a maximum power output of 170ps and maximum torque of 253-nm. It incorporates Continuous Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) technology and an Integrated Thermal Management System (ITMS) for optimal engine performance and increased fuel efficiency.

Hyundai SmartSense in the Custin includes advanced driver assistance features such as Forward-Collision Avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-spot Collision Avoidance, Safe Exit Assist, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Rear Cross-traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, and Rear Occupant Alert.

The Custin also offers four drive modes: Comfort, Sport, Eco, and Smart and is priced at P1.770M and is available in 2 variants with color options including Aurora Blue Pearl, Polar White, and Military Gray Metallic. The GLS variant features a black monotone interior, while the Premium variant offers a gray interior.
