Travelling to Japan is in every Filipino’s bucket list because of its people, culture, and food. In fact, tourism statistics published by JTB Tourism Research & Consulting Co. shows that over 613,000 Filipinos visited the Land of the Rising Sun in 2019 alone.
Japan is commonly known as home to authentic ramen and sushi, and for every Japanese dish you’ve heard of, there’s probably a few hundred more because every region in Japan has its own specialty and unique take on typically known dishes.
Join Adam Liaw as he visits his wife’s homeland and discover what else Japan has to offer in Asian Food Network’s newest series, “Destination Flavor: Japan,” set to premiere on July 23, 9 p.m.
Adam will travel the entire length of the country from north to south, starting with the snow-bound depths of Hokkaido where he delights himself with sea urchin and pond smelt, all the way to sunny Okinawa where he discovers Japanese fusion influenced by Chinese, American, Thai, and Korean flavors such as purple-flesh potato mochi and popping seaweed.
No other country can match the respect that the Japanese has when it comes to preparing food, whether it be a big feast or a simple meal, making a cup of tea or creating a Michelin-star dish. Which is why because of this, Washoku, traditional Japanese cuisine, has been added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2013, in honor of the beauty of the ingredients, with which Japanese dishes are prepared. Together with Adam, watch how the Japanese prepare different dishes that’s as eye-catching as it is mouth-watering on “Destination Flavor: Japan,” showing on Asian Food Network on Sky Cable CH 248, Cignal TV CH 62, and Destiny Cable CH 22.
