THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) yesterday reaffirmed its commitment in combating hunger and intensify the implementation of its “Walang Gutom” program (WGP) following an increase in hunger incidence among Filipino families as reflected in a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
DSWD assistant secretary and spokeswoman Irene Dumlao said the agency recognizes the growing challenge of food insecurity, pointing out that the March 15 to 20 SWS survey results reinforce the urgency of enhancing and further expanding the WGP, which is the Marcos administration’s flagship program, against hunger.
The SWS survey showed that 27.2 percent of Filipinos said their families experienced hunger at least once in the last three months, up from 21.2 percent in February. It has continuously gone up since January which recorded a 15.9 percent hunger rating.
It latest percentage is so far the highest since the 25.9 percent hunger rating in December 2024 under the Marcos government.
