PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has instructed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and other concerned agencies to intensify their monitoring of the coming Holy Week and ensure the safety and convenience of commuters traveling to and from provinces during the Lenten period.
“Nagbigay po ng order ang ating Pangulo. Hindi lamang po sa DOTr, pero sa mga attached agencies po to ensure the safety and convenience of all the passengers who will be traveling to their hometowns or will have vacations (The President issued an order. Not just to DOTr, but also to its attached agencies to ensure the safety and convenience of all the passengers who will be traveling to their hometowns or will have vacations),” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a briefing in Malacanang.
Castro said inspections would be implemented in all transportation terminals, including bus terminals, seaports and airports, to ensure the safety and convenience of passengers as well as prevent transport delays during the Holy Week.
Law enforcement units are also placed on alert to prevent crimes during the Lenten period.
“Hindi natin maiiwasan na mayroong mangyayaring mga aksyon, mga krimen. At hindi dapat matulog. Iyan po ang direktiba ng Pangulo. Kahit bakasyon ang karamihan, hindi dapat nagbabakasyon ang gobyerno (We cannot avoid that some actions, crimes could happen. Do not sleep. That is the directive of the President. While many are on vacation, the government does not go on break),” Castro said.
Holy week starts on April 13, Palm Sunday.
Maundy Thursday (April 17) and Good Friday (April 18) are regular non-working holidays, while Black Saturday (April 19) is a special non-working holiday.
