AT least 435,000 children in Metro Manila are being targeted for measles vaccination by the Department of Health’s Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD).

The immunization drive covering children aged 9 to 59 months started last week. The DOH has so far given measles shots to 41,000 children.

The DOH wants to vaccinate “those who may have missed their scheduled routine immunizations or who have only received the first dose,” Dr. Lester Tan, DOH-MMCHD director, said in an interview yesterday after a measles immunization activity in Manila.

“We will continuously visit communities and conduct house-to-house vaccination to encourage parents to have their children vaccinated,” he added.

Tan said the DOH needs to meet its target to prevent further measles outbreaks.
