THE Final Four cast of the 100th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament is now complete after the respective wins yesterday of the reigning champion College of St. Benilde and Letran at The Arena in San Juan.
The four-peat seeking Lady Blazers remained unblemished in the second round as they eliminated the Perpetual Help Lady Altas with a 25-15, 25-23, 25-18 victory that stretched their winning streak to eight.
Already assured of a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals with a 15-2 card, the green-and-white crew booted out Perpetual thanks to the efforts of Rhea Densing who led the squad with 15 points and skipper Mycah Go who delivered 12 markers and 11 digs.
Cristy Ondangan and Zam Nolasco also contributed to CSB’s cause with 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Lady Blazers booked their fourth consecutive semis appearance.
“So, focus muna doon sa last (elimination) game and then kung ano man iyong mga magiging problema, doon mag-aadjust ulit,” Lady Blazers coach Onyok Getigan said as they seek to sweep the second round of the eliminations this Friday against the Lyceum Lady Pirates at the same venue.
“Malaking bagay iyong haba ng liga. So nakapag-adjust kami noong practice, tune-up, ganito, nakikita iyong mga lapses tapos kung sino iyong dapat mag-step up talaga, nag-step up talaga,” he added.
Pauline Reyes and Jilliaza Donig led the Lady Altas, who slipped to 9-8, with 10 points apiece.
The Lady Knights also boosted their title bid after blasting the also-ran Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers 25-14, 25-20, 25-12.
