Communities affected by shear line receive P106M in food aid

MORE than P106.2 million worth of food and non-food items have been distributed to communities affected by the shear line which has resulted in scattered rains, thunderstorms and even flooding in some parts of the Bicol, Western Visayas and Central Visayas regions since January this year.

Data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as of Saturday evening showed that 259,756 families or 1.079 million people have been affected by the incessant rains due to the Shear Line.

It also displaced 16,4056 families or 70,321 persons, including 9,799 families or 45,106 persons who are currently staying in 158 evacuation centers in the three regions and 6,697 families or 25, 235 persons who are temporarily staying with relatives or friends.

Two houses were also damaged due to the rains and flood.

DSWD has distributed more than P10.589 million worth of aid while P329,500 worth of humanitarian assistance was distributed by the local government units.

The agency said it still has more than P2.8 billion worth of funds, food and non-food items on standby that are ready for distribution to those in need.
