THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking to distribute the Voter’s Information Sheet (VIS) by next month ahead of the May 12 midterm polls.

In an interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said they want all the VIS to be in the hands of registered voters weeks before the national and local polls.

“We have to distribute the VIS in the entire country from April 1 to April 30 as this will inform the voters about the steps on how to cast their votes and allow them to choose their candidates,” Garcia said.

The poll chief said they are looking to complete the VIS printing in Meycauayan, Bulacan by March 24.

“We are now also using the printers of the National Printing Office in order to meet the timeline,” said Garcia.

He said the VIS will have 1,667 versions as they are specific to every city and municipality.

“These VIS are different in every town and city since they have different sets of local candidates,” said Garcia.

Being area-specific, he said the VIS may also serve as “cheat sheets” for voters come Election Day.

“You can use this as your ‘kodigo’, which will allow you to cast your vote faster come Election Day,” said Garcia.

Under Republic Act No. 7904, the Comelec must provide all registered voters, through registered mail, with a voter information sheet at least 30 days before an election.

The VIS shall include the voter’s name, address, the precinct and the place where he is registered, and simplified instructions as to the casting of votes.
