ELECTIONS chairman George Garcia yesterday said cleansing of the voters list is already underway to rid it of multiple registrants ahead of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
While President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed the law postponing the December 1 BSKE, the Comelec continues to prepare for it amid the petitions filed with the Supreme Court questioning the legality of
Republic Act 12232, which set the new terms of barangay and youth officials and deferred the polls to November 2026.
“We are currently doing our cleansing of the voters list in preparation for the December 1 polls,” Garcia said in a radio interview.
The Comelec held nationwide voter registration activities from August 1 to 10, which was participated by 2,727,643 applicants.
In a related development, the Comelec invited the public to file their respective oppositions to applications for voter registration.
“Applications for registration may be challenged in writing and under oath during reception of the application or before the Election Registration Board (ERB),” it said, adding that oppositions to voter applications may be filed by any registered voter or representative of a political party.
The Comelec also said that for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) areas, the last day to file oppositions to applications is on August 18, while the hearing and disapproval of applications is set on August 22.
For the rest of the country, the Comelec said the last day to file oppositions to applications is on August 20, while the hearing and disapproval of applications is set on August 25.
