KYLINE Alcantara is glad to be launched in “Black Lipstick,” a movie that opens tomorrow, October 9 and tackles the serious issue of bullying. She plays a young lady afflicted with the skin disease called vitiligo that changes the color of her skin and makes her the target of mean girls in their school. In real life, has she ever experienced bullying?
“Ay opo,” she says. “As a child actress, I was bullied in auditions not only by other child stars but also by their parents. Grabe kasi ang competition. Hindi raw ako magiging mabuting example sa ibang tao as I come from a broken family. So I can relate sa role ko sa ‘Black Lipstick,’ which we call a millennial fairy tale kasi puro millennials kaming magkakasama rito.”
She says her dad left their family when she was still a little girl. “But after ten years, nagkabalikan ang parents ko and now, I look at it as an experience that helped me become stronger.”
It was during “Kambal Karibal” that it was rumored that she and Miguel Tanfelix became on, allegedly making Bianca Umali so jealous. “The truth is nagulat kami sa ganyang tsismis,” she says. “Never akong inaway ni Bianca and up to now, maayos naman ang aming relasyon. We know the truth and sa positive lang kami lagi. Ako, personally, ayoko ng may kaaway na kahit sino, kasi hindi good vibes yan.”
In “Black Lipstick,” she gets to work with Snooky Serna as her mother. So how is it working with her?
“I’m so thankful to Tita Snooky as my mom kasi very helpful siya sa akin,” she says. “I know she played the lead in ‘Blusang Itim’, the movie which inspired ‘Black Lipstick.’ She’s very accommodating and she really guided me in interpreting my role. She shared many stories with me about her own experiences in life and her career.”

Juancho Trivino already played a lead role as a dwarf in “Magkaibang Mundo” three years ago, but after that, he went back to playing supporting roles in “Destined to Be Yours,” “Tsuperhero,” “Inday Will Always Love You,” and “Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko,” that is why he’s glad he’s now given another lead role in “Madrasta” that replaced “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” on GMA-7’s afternoon slot.
“I’m happy na reality based ang ‘Madrasta’ at hindi telefantasya ng first starring role ko bilang duwende sa ‘Magkaibang Mundo’,” he says. “This time, I play a doctor na hindi alam na pinagtaksilan pala siya ng asawa niya, si Thea Tolentino, at sumama sa lover nitong si Ahron Villena. I was devastated and tried my best to win her back but she really abandoned me and our two children.”
He then meets Arra San Agustin, a nurse who he once saved. They fall in love and his marriage to Thea was annulled, so he got the chance to marry Arra. Their wedding scene is a big-budgeted sequence shot on top of a hill and Arra arrives on the scene while on board a helicopter. Thea then arrives on the scene to stop the wedding. How is it working with Arra?
“It’s our first time to work together and she’s very surprising!” says Juancho. “In person, parang sobrang mahinhin and soft spoken ang personality niya, but she can transform into someone more passionate and fiery kapag hinihingi ng eksena. I’m sure marami siyang gugulating viewers dito as she’s really doing a very good job. She deserves to be launched in ‘Madrasta’.”
Playing his mom in “Madrasta” is certified contravida Gladys Reyes as Dr. Elizabeth Ledesma, the owner of a hospital who will be mean to Arra and cannot accept her as a daughter-in-law.

Rita Daniela and Ken Chan comprise what we may call the unexpected love team.
“Last year, when ‘My Special Tatay’ was launched, supporting lang ako and I came to sing the theme song,” Rita recalls. “Now, a year later, heto at kami na ni Ken ang magkapareha as leads in ‘One of the Baes.’ Ang galing talaga ni Lord. In one year, nag-turn around ang career ko.”
Ken was supposed to be paired with Arra San Agustin in “My Special Tatay,” but viewers found his relationship as Boyet with the pokpok Aubrey more endearing and they ended up being a breakthrough love team called “BoBrey.” They’ve since recorded a hit song and they’re now also together as journey hosts in “The Clash Season 2” who present the stories of the contestants.
“One of the Baes” is now aired on primetime. How would they explain the success of their unexpected love team?
“I think people enjoyed seeing us both being very passionate on screen,” says Rita. “We just love what we do and we are just natural on screen, what you see is what you get, nothing is put on. We never really expected that viewers would love our tandem that much and it must be destiny.”
What does she find endearing in Ken?
“He’s very talented as an actor and so dedicated to his craft so it’s enjoyable to work with him. At hindi siya maramot. He cares for everyone on the set, his co-actors and even the crew.”

Barbie Forteza is happy to be reunited with boyfriend Jak Roberto in this month’s featured love story in “Wagas.” This is the charming romantic comedy entitled “Wait Lang… Is This Love?” She plays a pretty girl named Mayumi “Yummy” Bubuyog, who’s 21 years old and has never had a boyfriend.
She won’t get into a relationship because two of her aunts, Yayo Aguila and Tina Paner, are both man haters and they have a strong influence on her. “Sila ang tumayong mga magulang ko after my parents died at pareho silang bitter sa lalaki kaya ‘yun ang ipinamulat nila sa akin,” says Barbie. “Pero siempre, deep inside, hindi nila alam may tinatago rin pala akong feelings. Yes, makyondi rin po ang lola nyo, pero lihim lang.”
Her aunts do not know that she has a big crush on Jak, who plays Eugene, the all-around utility boy in their business called Walang Ka-Pares. But Barbie also doesn’t know Jak has a crush on her.
They cannot express their feelings for each other but complications occur when rich realtor Rex (Rey PJ Abellana) and his nephew Cedrick (Kristoffer Martin) come into their lives.
Cedrick quickly develops a big crush on Yummy and lets her know about his feelings, making her so tense and nervous. She gets confused and tells herself: “Wait Lang… Is This Love?”

The opening film is Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s suspense-drama, “Untrue,”
starring Cristine Reyes and Xian Lim, shot on location Tbilisi, Georgia. The closing film is “Wet Season” by Singaporean director Anthony Chen, best known for the acclaimed “Iloilo.”
QCinema 2019 focuses on Asian filmmakers who made a mark in world cinema, what with Asian filmmakers bagging the Palm d’ Or award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival for two consecutive years. It also recognizes women filmmakers participating in competitions for documentaries and short films with female-centric themes.
