Blue Eagles eye repeat win over Falcons

DEFENSE spelled the big difference in three-peat seeking Ateneo’s success in the last two seasons. Coach Tab Baldwin hopes his charges can continue to get the job done on the defensive end to make up for their struggles on offense.

“I can say thank God for our defense. That continues to be something to be difficult for our opposition and that is what we need to continue to understand that there are more ways to attack our defense. And these coaches in our league are going to continue to probe and look for those ways,” said Baldwin.

“So, as I said after the end of the first round, no time to rest, no time to look backward, only to look forward to the next game,” he added.

The Blue Eagles try to extend their unbeaten run when they tackle the Soaring Falcons today in the 82nd UAAP basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The match is set at 4 p.m. after University of the East eyes its third straight win when it takes on University of Santo Tomas at 2 o’clock.

Clashing in the curtain-raiser at 10:30 a.m. are Far Eastern University, which is also gunning for its third victory in a row, and National University.

Ateneo clobbered Adamson 70-52 in their first meeting last Sept. 4.

Six-foot-10 Angelo Kouame of Ivory Coast, Thirdy Ravena, twins Matt and Mike Nieto, William Navarro, and Isaac Go are expected to lead Ateneo’s charge.

The Falcons have lost two straight, counting their shocking 74-80 defeat to the Red Warriors also last Oct. 5.

Adamson will pin its hopes on Lenda Douanga, Jerom Lastimosa, Jerrick Ahanmisi, Simon Camacho, and Fil-Peruvian guard Valandre Chauca in its bid to improve its 3-5 record.
