COLLEGE of St. Benilde coach TY Tang does not dwell in the past.
After the Blazers failed to reach the Final Four of the last NCAA cage wars despite a red-hot start to their campaign, Tang said his squad is setting its sights on a fresh start.
“The team just started this week from a long break from the holiday season. It’s a fresh start for us and we have several months to prepare for the coming NCAA season,” Tang told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.
“We’re looking forward to competing once again,” he added.
CSB won its first five games last season but a six-game losing skid that told heavily on its Final Four bid. The Blazers finished the season with a 9-9 card, good for fifth.
Tang, 35, a former pro league veteran who suited up for Rain or Shine, has no regrets with his charges’ efforts last year.
“The team did its best and gave it all,” offered Tang, who will be on his fourth year calling the shots for the Taft-based five in the 96th NCAA basketball tournament set to unfold in July.
According to Tang, CSB lost 6-foot-7 Cameroonian big man Clement Leutcheu, Yankie Haruna, who was drafted by Magnolia in the pros; Edward Dixon, and Carlo Young, due to graduation and the Blazers are still seeking to recruit players who can fill in the void.
“(We lost) Clement (Leutcheu), (Edward) Dixon, (Yankie) Haruna, and (Carlo) Young,” said the youthful Tang.
