Moviegoers are in for a special treat as the Goethe-Institut Philippinen and SM Cinema present the 4thGerman Film Week with an exciting line-up of 12 critically-acclaimed German films running until today, October 12 at SM City Manila and SM Megamall.
This year’s German Film Week is especially meaningful as it commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. To commemorate this historical event, half of the festival’s programming will be dedicated to films offering perspectives of life in East and West Germany during the divide.
These include this year’s opening film “Balloon” (“Ballon,” 2018), an enthralling drama based on actual events about two families and their plan to escape from East Germany to the West with a homemade hot air balloon. The film was awarded 2019 Best Feature Film at the Washington DC Film Festival.
Also included in this specially-curated program for the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall are must-see films: “Berlin Blues”; “Good Bye, Lenin”; “Gundermann”; “The Lives of Others”; and “Barbara.”
This year’s movie selection offers moviegoers a glimpse into German culture and history, and is sure to delight film enthusiasts young and old, and romance, comedy, and action fans. Not to be missed are award-winning German films “25km/h”; “100 Things”; “A Regular Woman”; “All About Me”; “Cold Feet”; and “The Keeper.”
Amazing surprises also await moviegoers at SM City Manila and SM Megamall with the Watch ‘n Win contest. Moviegoers can simply join the quiz and get a chance to be the lucky winner of an all-expense roundtrip to Germany.
Tickets to the German Film Week are at P100 for all films, with a special discounted price of P50 for students. The German Film Week is also supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines and is one of the many exciting cultural events at SM Cinema.
