The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is set to upgrade its Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) system on September 30.
This will enhance the functionality and software stability of the Air Traffic Management System (ATMS) through the installation and launch of an updated ATMS software version under the existing software support and maintenance services contract with Thales.
The integration is part of CAAP’s ongoing commitment to modernizing and enhancing the functionality and software stability of the ATMS.
These advancements will result in more efficient air traffic operations, reduced delays and an overall smoother experience for both airlines and passengers, CAAP said.
However, the system upgrade may affect several flights. CAAP said in a statement a notice to airmen will be issued to inform airlines and stakeholders 48 hours prior to the upgrade.
CAAP, along with its technology solution provider Thales, assured that minimal disturbance will affect several flights during the installation and software updates, which are scheduled to occur during hours of low passenger traffic.
The communication, navigation and surveillance equipment used for air traffic operations continue to function properly; however, CAAP said it has taken precautionary steps and implemented contingency procedures to ensure the safety of flights and passengers, including increasing the separation time between departing flights.
This proactive approach may result in some delays, but it is necessary to maintain safety standards, CAAP added.
CAAP said it is committed to maintaining the highest standard of safety and service excellence to deliver even safer, more efficient and reliable air travel services.
