Cleaner air indoors

Clean air is one of life’s simpler pleasures. However, breathing in fresh air with minimal pollution is nearly impossible when living in the metro. Even indoor air is not exempt from this, as particulate matters such as dust and even living objects such as fungi and germs can get into homes once the door is opened.

These small particles can affect the health and wellbeing of the people living in their homes, resulting in poor sleep, allergic reactions, and other respiratory problems. For Air Intellipure founder Nick Gitsis, this issue became a concern when he had children. A former pilot, he has seen firsthand the haze surrounding cities and knew that the 4 walls of the house will not be enough to combat air pollution.

“It bothered me 25 years ago and as it got progressively worse, it truly disturbed me once I had children, knowing this was the air they were breathing. We bought air purifiers from abroad when we couldn’t find good ones here, but even in the U.S., what was primarily available were High Efficiency Particulate (HEPA) air purifiers which were supposedly working, but I didn’t feel any noticeable difference,” he shared.

After a long search, he found Intellipure, a New York, U.S.A.-based company that has been providing indoor air quality solutions worldwide for more than 30 years. The revolutionary Disinfecting Filtration System (DFS) technology utilized in all Intellipure air purification systems has been proven to be 40x better than HEPA, which is commonly referred to as the industry standard.

Unlike HEPA purifiers, Intellipure’s air purifying system captures and destroys 99.99 percent of all particles down to 0.007 micron in size. This includes viruses, molds and bacteria which are killed through the microbiostatic condition created by the flow of an electrical charge through a part of the filter. This electrical charge also ionizes the air passing through the filter, trapping gases and odors, resulting in clean air that is free from ultrafine particles.

Gitsis has decided to bring in Intellipure’s line of air purifiers to help address the growing concern of air pollution. Currently, the company offers 4 models, 2 of which can be used in rooms while bigger units can be used in heating, ventilation and air condition (HVAC) systems of building or larger spaces.

The Intellipure Ultrafine 468 can be used in rooms up to 148sqm while the Intellipure Compact is a better fit for smaller rooms up to 35 sqm. The Intellipure 950P can handle room sizes of up to 500sqm which make it a perfect fit for large areas such as laboratories, offices and medical clean rooms, and the IntellipureSuperV can be connected directly to a building’s HVAC system.

For Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Specialist Dr. Lou Ver Leigh A. Manzon-Reyes, the benefits of Intellipure cannot be overstated. “While I strongly recommend avoidance of exposure to inhalant allergens, pollution and smoke among my patients with allergies, often times this is impossible. But with the DFS technology of Intellipure, I am able to recommend an air purifier that actually works and I am confident that my patients will have significantly cleaner and safer air to breathe.”

Mother of four and VP of Sta. Elena Properties, Katrina Tantoco-Lobregat shares, “Given the grave state of air pollution in Makati, and having 4 kids whose young lungs are prone to respiratory illnesses, I have noticed a drastic decrease in the frequency of their respiratory illnesses since we installed Intellipureunits in our home. The air definitely feels noticeably cleaner when we run the units. On top of that, they are easy to run and maintain.”

The immediate benefits of using an Intellipure machine include a significant reduction of airborne particles in the space. As for long-term benefits, these include better sleep, the alleviation of symptoms linked to allergies and asthma, lower risk for respiratory infections and a decreased risk of heart and lung diseases.

“We spend a majority of our lives indoors — especially in the city. It’s time we made it healthier. My family sleeps better, our kids still come home from school with sniffles once in a while, but they recover much faster now that we have our Intellipure machines. And I am happy to be able to bring these amazing products to others who I know have been looking for the best solution to indoor air quality,” said Gitsis.
