FOLLOWING in the footsteps of outstanding gymnast and older brother Carlos Yulo, younger siblings Elaiza Andriel and Karl Eldrew stamped their class in their international debut in the 1st JRC AG Stars Championships over the weekend at the Jintana Gymnastics Club in Bangkok, Thailand.
Elaiza Andriel, 12, emerged as the star in the women’s artistic gymnastics competition with four gold medals, topped by the gold medal in the individual all-around with 43.100 points in the invitational tournament that drew foreign entries from India and Hong Kong.
She also won mints in the vault (10.70), uneven bars (11.050) and floor exercise (10.750), the pet event of her kuya Caloy, who ruled the event in the 39th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany in 2019.
Karl Eldrew, 14, also bagged his lone gold medal in the floor exercise (12.60) along with silver medals in the individual all-around (72.284), parallel bars (12.750), pommel horse (10.750), vault (12.90) and a bronze in the rings (11.650) in the trip supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines.
“Huge congratulations to these two young gymnasts of mine. Elaiza Yulo got four gold medals out of five, missed the balance beam. Karl Yulo got six medals out of seven, missed the high bars,” Angelica Yulo, the children’s proud mom, posted on her Facebook page.
“These are really big achievements of these two young fellas; this is just the beginning of your journey as a gymnast. Not a bad result (as) you gave your opponents a good fight. I hope you have learned a lot in this competition,” the elder Yulo added. “I can say that I am proud being your mom.”
She also thanked GAP president Cynthia Carrion plus national women’s coach Dee Coh and men’s coach Reyland Capellan, who accompanied the Yulos to their first international event.
