Yulo seeks podium finish in Paris Games

DON’T expect any major changes in the routines and programs of gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo in the Paris Olympic Games.

Yulo, who left over the weekend with gymnastics chief Cynthia Carrion for the Philippine Olympic contingent’s training camp in Metz, France, said there would be no major upgrades to what he performed in the Asian Artistic Gymnastic Ghampionships last May in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

“The same start values we had in Tashkent will be the same,” said the pint-sized athlete, who bagged four golds in the Asian competition, including his first mint in the prestigious and taxing all-around event, which was achieved in the absence of Asia’s big guns.

While he aims to stick to the same regimen, Yulo is tweaking his moves so they can be executed consistently and well in the face of elite competition he will be up against in the romantic French capital.

“This is why after every practice I take down notes, review my performance and see how I can perform them better,” explained Yulo, another reason why he stayed behind a week later to fine tune his moves at the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines training center in Intramuros, Manila.

The two-time world champion had a forgettable Olympic debut in Tokyo in the pandemic-delayed Summer Games in 2021, including fumbling in his pet event, the floor exercise, before revealing that he suffered an injury just before the meet.
